Accessibility Statement

Website: senselapland.fi (Sense Lapland)

Administrator: Arcticmint Oy, Rovaniemi

Date of the report: June 12, 2026

Applicable standard: WCAG 2.1, Level AA

1. Commitment to Accessibility

Sense Lapland is committed to making its website, senselapland.fi, as accessible as possible to all users. The site’s accessibility has been evaluated in accordance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements. Accessibility has been taken into account in all areas of the site, and the site uses the UserWay accessibility tool, which also supports neuro-inclusive use.

2. Bilingualism

The website is bilingual: the content is available in both Finnish and English. In both language versions, we have strived for clear and understandable language that also serves users for whom readability is important. The site’s language is defined at the HTML level (lang attribute), ensuring that screen readers correctly identify the language.

3. UserWay Accessibility Tool

This website uses the UserWay accessibility tool, which offers users a wide range of customization options:

  • Increase text size

  • Adjusting color contrast and using dark mode

  • Changing the font to a more readable one

  • Disabling any animations (this site does not contain any animations)

  • Enlarging the cursor

  • Adjusting highlighting and spacing – supports neuro-inclusive use (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD)

  • Improving keyboard navigation

The UserWay tool complements the website’s own accessibility solutions and enables the customization of a personalized user experience.

4. Accessibility requirements taken into account

Color contrasts

The contrast between the text and background colors on the site has been manually checked using the WebAIM Contrast Checker tool. All significant color combinations meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirement (a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text) as well as the Level AAA requirement. Automated testing tools (WAVE) reported some contrast warnings that were found to be incorrect during the manual review—this is due to the tools’ limitations in interpreting colors.

Navigation and Structure

The website features a clear and consistent navigation structure on all pages. The pages include a "Skip to content" link, which allows keyboard users to quickly access the main content.

Alternative text for images

The images on this site have descriptive and accurate alternative text (alt text) that conveys the image’s content to users of screen readers. Decorative images are marked with an empty alt attribute.

Clarity of the text

The text content on the website is written in clear and understandable language. Clear language benefits all users, especially those with cognitive differences or reading difficulties.

Heading structure

The content is logically organized using headings (H1, H2), which makes it easier to navigate the site using a screen reader.

Links

The links on the site are descriptive and clearly indicate where they lead.

Responsiveness

The site works flawlessly on various devices and screens, including mobile devices and tablets.

Forms

The fields in the contact form are clearly labeled, and the form can be filled out using a keyboard.

Error Page (404)

The site's 404 error page is accessible and clear. It includes an easy-to-understand error message—"We're sorry. The page you're looking for cannot be found, or there was an error with the link you clicked"—a link back to the site's home page, and a fully functional navigation menu. The 'Skip to content' text is also available on the error page.

The following methods were used in the accessibility assessment:

  • WAVE Evaluation Tool
